For the Motion Picture Association, I am looking for a Legal Counsel with up to 10 years of experience and a strong interest in copyright enforcement. Fluent in English and in other EMEA languages.

The Motion Picture Association is an American trade association representing and defending the interests of the five major U.S. film studios, as well as the video streaming service Netflix. It promotes and protects the intellectual property rights of its members and conducts public awareness programs around the world to highlight the importance of content protection.

Function

As part of the EMEA Legal Department, you will focus on copyright enforcement and litigation. You will be involved in the handling and management of copyright litigation (criminal and civil) in the EMEA region (or even outside depending on your profile) and will also provide legal analysis and input on applicable (national and EU) legislation and upcoming regulation. Your tasks will include:

  • Developing and recommending litigation strategies to members of the association
  • Reviewing and drafting written pleadings
  • Analysing legal documentation in proceedings
  • Providing information to external counsels and members
  • Contacting external counsels and national content protection programs
  • Analysing legislation regarding copyright and other regulations affecting the industry
  • Providing legal analysis, especially in respect of content protection and copyright, to the association’s EMEA division, member companies and national organisations
  • Analysing and providing input on EU and Member State legislative proposals/consultations relating to content protection issues
  • Assisting with compliance files and supporting the DPO

Profile

  • You hold a master’s degree in law
  • You have a good knowledge of intellectual property and copyright law in particular (an additional degree in IP is a plus)
  • You have gained relevant IP experience in an international context (up to 10 years)
  • You have a good understanding of the Internet and related IP issues
  • You are a team player with the highest level of work ethic and integrity
  • You are a good communicator and diplomatic
  • You have excellent analytical and writing skills
  • You are positive, hands-on, pro-active, flexible and pragmatic
  • You are willing to travel a few times a year
  • You are fluent in English, both orally and in writing. Other EMEA spoken languages are a plus (especially Spanish)
